Our Story

The Origin of Galosom

The Origin of Galosom In 2011, James Whitmore had already built a successful career in specialty coffee roasting. Yet beyond business, his greatest passion was never coffee — it was mechanical watches.

Over nearly two decades, James collected timepieces from Switzerland, Germany, and Japan. Each watch represented a milestone, a memory, or a moment worth preserving. But as his collection grew, so did a problem he had not expected.

Maintaining dozens of automatic watches should have been simple. Instead, it became frustrating. He purchased watch winders from different brands, expecting premium performance. The reality was disappointing. Some became noisy after a year. Others suffered electronic failures. Several looked luxurious at first, but developed cosmetic issues under long-term use.

For a collector, this was more than inconvenient. It felt wrong.

One evening in 2012, while discussing the issue with his longtime friend Daniel Brooks, the conversation took an unexpected turn.

“Collectors spend thousands on watches. Why are they forced to settle for products that do not last?”
That question stayed with James.

Instead of accepting the industry’s compromises, he decided to build the watch winder he had always wanted to own — one that was quiet, reliable, beautifully finished, and engineered for serious collectors.

Years of Trial, Failure, and Refinement
The following years were not easy. Early prototypes failed durability tests. Motors overheated. Control systems needed redesign. Finishes that looked beautiful in the showroom did not always survive long-term daily use.

Rather than rushing to market, James and his team kept refining every detail. They tested different motor technologies, advanced control systems, wood structures, interior materials, noise-reduction methods, and long-term reliability standards.

Every failure taught them something. Every revision brought the product closer to the standard James believed collectors deserved.

The Breakthrough
By 2018, after years of development and countless revisions, the team finally created a watch winder that met their own demanding standards: quiet in operation, stable in performance, elegant in appearance, and built for long-term ownership.

That achievement gradually became the foundation of Galosom.

What makes the story different is that the company was not created by a manufacturing giant chasing another product category. It was created by collectors solving their own problem.

Built for Collectors
Today, Galosom works with specialized partners across multiple countries, combining precision motors, advanced electronics, premium materials, refined finishing, and strict quality control.

Every product follows a simple philosophy:

Build something worthy of the watches it protects.
We do not chase short-term trends. We do not compromise on materials. And we never forget that every product begins with the same passion that inspired its creation — a love for fine mechanical watches.
